sunshine milk: turmeric-ginger latte

Ingredients

  • 1-1.5 cup unsweetened almond, coconut, or hemp milk
  • 1 heaping Tbsp fresh turmeric root, grated (or use approximately 2 teaspoons turmeric paste – see below for instructions)
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 Tbsp grated fresh ginger root (or 1 tsp ground)
  • 1 Tbsp coconut oil
  • Raw honey, maple syrup, stevia, monk fruit extract, or sweetener of choice to taste.
  • Pinch of black pepper (optional)

Directions

Gently warm the almond or coconut milk in a small saucepan. Do not boil. Add turmeric, ginger and cinnamon.

Add coconut oil to the mixture and gently heat together until melted.

Use a wire whisk or immersion blender to create a foam. Continue to stir until frothy and heated through.

Stir in honey or sweetener of choice to taste. Sprinkle with cinnamon if desired. 

Great for drinking in afternoon or evening to calm or reduce snacking.

Turmeric paste: (make ahead alternative to raw grated turmeric) combine 2 parts turmeric powder with 1 part boiling water. Mix and store any extra in the fridge for up to 5 days. 

happy sleep milk: date-nutmeg latte

Ingredients

  • 1-1.5 cup unsweetened almond, coconut, or hemp milk (optional 10 raw soaked/peeled almonds made into a paste)
  • 4-5 raw dates (preferably medjool, shot into tiny pieces or grind into paste)
  • 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground cardamom
  • pinch of ground nutmeg
  • pinch of ground black pepper
  • 2 tsp ghee/clarified butter or coconut oil

Directions

Gently warm the milk in a small saucepan. Do not boil. Optionally add soaked almond paste then add chopped dates or date paste.

Combine ghee or coconut oil with the mixture and gently heat together until melted.

Use a wire whisk or immersion blender to create a foam. Continue to stir until frothy and heated through.

No sweetener is needed because dates are naturally sweet.

Great for drinking in evening or before bed to calm GI & induce sleep.

Skip nutmeg if an allergy is suspected.

energizing tea: Matcha-Moringa latte

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of water
  • 1 tsp organic matcha green tea powder
  • 1/4-1/2 tsp organic moringa leaf powder
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened almond, coconut, or hemp milk
  • (optional) 1/4 tsp maca root powder and/or 1/4 tsp ashwagandha root powder and/or lucuma powder
  • (optional) add 1 Tbsp coconut oil or ghee
  • sweeten to taste with monk fruit extract, stevia, or honey

Directions

Heat water and/or non-dairy milk, do not boil (can also add milk cold to hot water).

Blend in matcha and moringa and optionally maca, ashwagandha, and/or lucuma powders using a milk frother tool or small immersion blender.

Combine ghee or coconut oil, continue blending.

Periodically stir while drinking.
